The graduation ceremony at Front Porch is steeped in connection and the recognition of someone’s profound personal work. This journey is acknowledged through symbolic moments and talisman, which include our rocks, locks and lanterns.

Rocks: graduates pick a rock from our box of rocks (sight unseen), with which all clients and staff imbue with words of hope, power, wisdom and strength to give to the client as a totem object of their recovery and healing and represents the solid foundation they’ve created.

Locks: each clients gets to select a lock that they set a code to, that is ceremoniously locked into one of the rain chains on the house. This is locking in their growth and connection with self and the program. This is an entire group experience.

Lanterns: the week leading up to someone’s graduation, they select a wishing lantern for their ceremony. The week is spent writing messages to the client by staff and clients. The graduate reads the messages the day of graduation, prior to lighting their lantern and sending the “wishes” for continued healing and recovery, floating magically into the air.
